Reasonable time to reply
Hi what is a Reasonable amount of time to reply to a solicitor? (protocol etc)
I have a demand for information which is requested but the info requested is spread over 10 years. 7 days is the request.
Its a big firm which are trying to intimidate me , so would like to respond well.
Would you believe that what is reasonable depends on the circumstances?
Reply to the effect that: you have received the letter; they demand information that will take a good deal of time to locate/assemble/collate; it is unlikely that you will be able to reply within 7 days but you will reply to the letter as soon as you can.
NB - do not promise to deliver all they ask if you will not be doing so.
Should you be consulting a solicitor?
I believe that the generally accepted legal definition of "Reasonable" is :"That which the man on the number seven bus would find reasonable."
I may not have it exactly right, I'm sure one of the more learned members can correct the detail... or maybe I'll ask Wikipedia.
The No. 7 route is from East Acton to Oxford Circus. It is not the 'Clapham Omnibus'.
The circumstances overwhelmingly dictate.
Reply that yoy accept that a reasonable time is to be allowed and complied with, but that 7 days is not enough.
Point out what has to be done, and give another estimate.
