An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter Scale shook on Monday the regions of Arica-Parinacota and Tarapaca in northern Chile, with no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
The earthquake occurred at 3:45 p.m. local time, and its epicenter was located some 75 km north of Iquique, about 1,800 km north of Santiago, with a depth of 10 km, the Seismologic Institute of the University of Chile said.
According to the state-run Regional Office of Emergency (Onemi),there were neither registered damage in infrastructure nor reports of victims.
The earthquake had an intensity of 4 degrees on the Mercalli scale in the cities of Iquique and Alto Hospicio, while in the city of Arica the earthquake has a 2-degree intensity, the Onemi said.
Last Friday, a tremor of magnitude 6.5 hit the region, causing power blackouts and minor landslides in some areas, but there were no casualties.
